FUNERAL RITES FOR MRS. SWAN HELD TUESDAY MORNING

     Klickitat County lost a well-loved pioneer with the passing of Mrs. Andrew Swan at the Klickitat Valley Hospital in December 1, after an extended illness.
     Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Martin Skehan officiating. Interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery.
     Pallbearers were William Hoctor, William Anderson, Victor Ganguin, Herman Stump, John Hoctor, and Gus Trumbo.
     Mrs. Swan, who was Mayme Byrne, was born in Kilkenny, Minnesota, April 13, 1888, the daughter of John and Bridget Byrne and one of the 11 children.
     She received her formal education in the convent at Montgomery, Minnesota. In the spirit of a true pioneer, she came as a young girl to teach in the schools of the Puget Sound area, where she studied at the University of Seattle.
     She first came to Klickitat County in 1919 to teach in the Pleasant Valley School. Here she met her husband Andrew Swan. They were married June 9, 1914 and have made their home on the Pleasant Valley ranch since that time.
     To their union for children were born; Mildred and Leo of Goldendale, and Charles of Portland. A daughter, Mary Alice, died in infancy.
     Mrs. Swan was an active member of the community. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and a 25 year member of the Pleasant Valley Grange. She served several terms on the school board and was for many years a election registrar for her community.
     Despite her many community activities, she will be best remembered as a devoted home- maker and sincere friend.
     She is survived by her husband, Andrew of Goldendale; three children, Mrs. Mildred Mason and Leo Swan of Goldendale and Charles Swan of Portland; four grandchildren, Robert Swan of Portland and Micheal, Randel and Leslie Swan of Goldendale; one brother, Tom Byrne of Kilkenny, Minnesota; five sisters, Mis Ann Byrne, Los Angeles, Mrs. Alice Gillespie, Kilkenny, Mrs. Laura Cronin, Los Angeles, Mrs. Katherine Angfang, St. Peter, Minnesota and Mrs. Agnes Brennan of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
