MARVIN GARNER OF LYLE DIES
Marvin O. Garner, groceryman at Lyle, Wash., died at a local hospital Friday at the age of 60. Surviving are his widow, Clara, of Lyle. The body was taken to Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon by Smith Calloway Chapel for the funeral.

MELVIN GARNER RITES TUESDAY
Funeral services for Melvin O. Garner was Tuesday, April
12 at 2 p.m. in Gardner's Chapel, White Salmon. Rev. Roger Clevenger officiated
and burial followed at the Balch cemetery, Lyle.
Melvin Garner was born in Portland, Ore., January 30,
1906, the first child of Jesse C. and Ida Davey Garner.
He grew up in Lyle and graduated from the Lyle High School
in 1925 and afterward attended business college in Portland.
On June 3, 1937 he married Clara B. Coleman of Bingen.
Their first home was in Lyle where he was employed by the Yakima Sheep Company.
Two daughters were bon to them: Mary Kay on December 11, 1941 and Nancy Lee,
November 9, 1947.
For a number of years, Melvin owned and operated the
Lyle Mercantile, prior to moving to Centerville where he owned a grocery
store. the family returned to Lyle in 1954 after two years in Cascade Locks,
Ore.
During the past 12 years he has been retired, due to
ill health and died Friday, April 8 in the Dalles, Ore.
Surviving are his widow, Clara B. Garner, Lyle; two
daughters, Nancy K. Young, Novato, Calif.; Nancy Lee Garner, Lyle; a brother,
Marvin Garner, Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Marie Edris, North Bonneville,
two grandchildren and two nieces and two nephews.
