Mabel P. "Mae" Stegman, 85,of Sheridan, Ore. passed away
Nov. 26, 1996.
She was born July 14, 1911 in Hancock, Minn. to William
and Bertha (Osterman) Quasebarth. Mabel grew up and went to school in Hancock
and then attended college in Minneapolis, Minn. When the depression hit,
she returned to Hancock. Mabel moved to Goldendale in 1946. She married Henry
Stegman and together they had a sheep ranch.
Mabel and Henry moved to McMinnville, Ore. in the late
1950's, continuing in the sheep and cattle ranch business. In 1962, she sold
the ranch and moved to Newberg. Mabel enjoyed working in Newberg.
Mabel was active with V.F.W. for a number of years, and
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg, and was also involved with
Teamsters for many years. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crafts, making
items for her family.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 1962
and only daughter, Anna Mae Crawford in 1976.
She is survived by three brothers, Henry Quasebarth of
Vancouver, Otto Quasebarth of Goldendale and John Quasebarth of Hancock,
Minn.; one sister, Helen Jennice of Beaumont, Texas; three grandchildren
and three great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Dec. 2 at Attrell's Newberg
Funeral Chapel, in Newberg, with Reverend Norman Olson officiating. A graveside
service with interment was on Dec. 4 at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in
Goldendale, with Father Thomas V. Lane officiating.

Mabel P. "Mae" Stegman, 85,of Newberg died on Tuesday,
Nov. 26, 1996. She was 85.
She was born July 14, 1911 to William and Bertha (Osterman)
Quasebarth in Hancock, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Hancock then
attended college for a couple of years in Minneapolis, Minn. When the Great
Depression hit, she returned to Hancock. She moved to Goldendale, Wash. in
the 1940s. She married Henry Stegman. They owned a sheep ranch. The couple
moved to McMinnville in the late 1950s where they again worked in the sheep
and cattle-ranching business. She moved to Newberg in 1963 after her husband
died. After retiring she worked at The Health Food Store in Newberg and The
Nut Tree in Dundee.
She was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a
member of Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg and the Teamsters for many years.
She enjoyed knitting, crafts, and gardening.
Survivors include: brothers, Henry Quasebarth of Vancouver,
Wash., Otto Quasebarth of Goldendale and John Quasebarth of Hancock, Minn.;
sister, Helen Jennice of Beaumont, Texas; three grandchildren; three great
grandchildren. Her daughter, Anna Mae Crawford, preceded her in death in
1976.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Attrell's
Newberg Funeral Chapel with Rev. Norman Olson officiating. A graveside service
with interment is set for 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Holy Trinity Catholic
Cemetery in Goldendale, Wash., with Father Thomas V. Lane officiating.
