"Trout Lake News"
Trout Lake was saddened Saturday by the passing of Merle Johnson. He had not been well for some time, but it did not seem so serious and he had been in the port office doing his work every day up to this week. A week ago Sunday he was taken to the hospital at Hood River, then later to the Emanuel Hospital in Portland. Fortunately their children all came during the week and were able to talk to their father. Kyle Johnson and Sylvia, the youngest daughter came from Seattle where both attend the U of W; also Mr. and Mrs. Mike McKinney from Seattle, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Pollack flew from Cantwell, Alaska where he teaches school. Elaine Pollack will be able to stay with her mother for part of the summer. Two sisters of Mrs. Johnson and a brother came from South Dakota Monday. The valley will miss Mr. Johnson in many ways. They have been constant workers in the Presbyterian Church since first coming to the valley. Merle is postmaster at Trout Lake and also Master of the Trout Lake Grange. Funeral Services were held Tuesday morning in the Presbyterian church.
