MARK SHEBLEY
Mark Thomas Shebley, 57, a resident of The Dalles, died
Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Portland, Ore.
He was born Jan. 18, 1946, in Mt. Vernon, Ill., the oldest
of five children of Ella McLeod Shebley and Justin "Jerry" Shebley. He lived
and attended schools in Klickitat County, leaving Lyle to join the Navy on
Jan. 28, 1963. After completing his service, he returned to Lyle where he
worked at various jobs in the lumber industry until re-enlisting in the
Navy.
His Naval career took him to the Mediterranean, Middle
East, Philippines, Midway Island, Treasure Island, and Puget Sound, where
he was a yard craft boat captain. He also spent time as a recruiter. He had
achieved the rank of Chief Boatswain Mate (E-7) when his health forced his
retirement. After retirement, he worked for the Postal Service, Mervyn's
and as a security guard.
He enjoyed working on classic cars, most recently his
second 1965 Barracuda. He was an Entered Apprentice Mason and a member of
Mid-Columbia Car Club.
Mr. Shebley is survived by his wife Kathy; sons Eugene,
Bakersfield, Calif., and Calvin, Crittenden, Ky.; grandchildren Brittany,
Justin, Anthony, Paige and Faith; brothers Ernie Webster, Appleton, and Jerry
Shebley, The Dalles; sisters Ruby Jean Wustoff, The Dalles, and Sonnie,
Vancouver; stepchildren Stan and Julie, Portland; mother of his children,
Patricia Henderson, Lyle; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and
nephews.
A funeral service and committal was held June 17, 2003,
at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Chapel and Cemetery in Appleton, with Pastor
Ken Post presiding.
Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation
or the Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of Gardner Funeral Home, PO Box
390, White Salmon, Wash. 98672, who handled arrangements.
