NOMA E. MILLER SERVICES TUES.
Noma Elvira Miller died Friday, October 28 at Skyline
Hospital at White Salmon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney
Mitchel Miller; her son, Richard William Miller; infant grandson, Grant William
Summerhill; and her brother, William Arthur Thompson. She is survived by
one daughter, Mrs. William (Donna) Summerhill and three grandchildren of
Puyallup, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Gerald (Erma) Taylor of Ft. Lewis, Wash.;
and 19 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Gardner's
Funeral Home with Rev. Alfred Waln officiating. Burial was in Goodwill Cemetery.
Active casket bearers were Frederick House, Monty Austin,
George Yarnell, Hulan Whitson, William Lauterbach and Eugene Glader. Honorary
bearers were Chester House. James Muir, Mack Billette and Edgar Lackey.
Noma Elvira Thompson was born June 12, 1898 at Forest
Grove, Oregon. The family moved to Fossil, Ore, when she was a year old.
In 1909 they came to Lyle and homesteaded on Major Creek. She was graduated
from White Salmon High. School in 1919.
A graduate of Western Washington College of Education,
she first taught in 1919-1920 at the old Laws Corner School. She taught at
Klickitat Heights from 1921 to 1923. She has taught 20 years in he White
Salmon School System and two years at Stevenson, retiring in 1965.
She was united in marriage to Sidney Mitchel Miller on
July 27, 1923. They made their home at Hood River prior to building their
home on the farm at Laws Corner in 1926.
