NINA HEWITT

     Nina Hewitt, 80, died Thursday, Dec.13, 2001, in Camas.
     She was born April 10, 1921 in Los Angeles, Calif., and grew up in Southern California. Her parents died when she was 14, so she moved to the Battle Ground area with five brothers and sisters. She married Albert Souders at age 17 and spent most of her married life in the Lyle/Dallesport area, where she worked as a school cook.
     Mr. Souders died on Dec.13, 1963 and a year later, she moved to the Camas area to be closer to family. She worked for a time at Jantzen Mills and Crown Zellerbach paper mill.
     She loved to garden and was a skilled carpenter. She also liked oil painting.
     Her family was most important to her and she supported the Fern Prairie Methodist Church with her talents.
     Mrs. Hewitt is survived by her son Fred "Bill" Souders, Doyle, Calif., daughters Eileen Davis, Camas, and Edith Campbell, Yuma, Ariz.; sister Tina Meyer, Salem, Ore.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
     A memorial service for Mrs. Hewitt will be held Thursday, Dec. 20, at 11:30 a.m. at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas. Her ashes will be inurned at the Lyle Balch Cemetery in Lyle.
     Memorials may be given to the Fern Prairie Methodist Church.
     Straub's Funeral Home in Camas is in charge of arrangements.

     Nina Souders Hewitt, 80, died Thursday, Dec.13, 2001, in Camas.
     Mrs. Hewitt was born Apr11 10, 1921, in Los Angeles and moved to Battle Ground when she was 14. She married at 17 and lived in the Lyle-Dallesport area for many years where she worked as a school cook. A year alter her husband died she moved to the Camas area and worked at the Jantzen sewing mill and Crown Zellerbach paper mill.
     She enjoyed gardening and oil painting and was a skilled carpenter. Her family was important to her and she supported the Fern Prairie Methodist Church with her talents. Her husband, Albert, died in 1963.
     Survivors include one son, Fred "Bill" Souders of Doyle, Calif.; two daughters, Eileen Davis of Camas and Edith Campbell of Yuma, Ariz.; one sister, Tina Meyer of Salem, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
     A memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas. The body was cremated and will be buried at Lyle Balch Cemetery in Lyle.
