NORMAN ODEGAARD

     Norman Nils Odegaard, a Glenwood resident, died May 2, 1997, in Goldendale, at the age of 78.
     Mr. Odegaard was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Wahpeton, N.D., the oldest of four children born to Nils and Margrethe (Stubsjeon) Odegaard. He grew up in North Dakota and graduated from McHenry High School in 1938. He attended a teacher's college and then taught and farmed the family farm for several years.
     He married Yvonne LaFrance on Jan. 2, 1948, in Moorehead, Minn. He then started working in Northwest dam construction and settled in The Dalles in 1954. Beginning in the mid 1950s, he started his own construction and remodeling company. He retired to Hawaii in the early 1980 and moved to Glenwood in 1993 to be near family.
     He was a member of the Lutheran Church, Eagles and charter member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating, hunting, woodworking, dancing and playing all types of music.
     He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, Glenwood; sons Mark Odegaard, Pendleton, Ore., Barry Odegaard of Hawaii; daughter Marlene Odegaard, Glenwood; three grandchildren Darren and Darrick Jones and Scott Odegaard; two great-grandchildren Dustin and Dakota Jones; sisters Christabell Petersen, Edina, Minn., and Karen Vance, West Fargo, N.D.; nephew and best friend Michael Guischer, The Dalles; and other numerous nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by daughter Angela Carol in 1954, son Kevin Nils in December 1972, and sister Anna Guischer in April 1990.
     Funeral services for Mr. Odegaard were held May 7 at 11 a.m. at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in The Dalles. Interment was at Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4445 SW Barbur Blvd., Portland, Ore., 97201.
     Arrangements were made by Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home, The Dalles.
