OSCAR A. BOARDSEN
Oscar A. Boardsen, 83, of Goldendale, died Jan. 30, 2001,
in Goldendale.
He was born May 18, 1917 in Burbank, S.D., to Oscar and
Ingeborg Boardsen. Oscar attended school there and was married to Eileen
Clifford on Oct.12, 1940,in Vermillion, S.D. The couple farmed in South Dakota
and Oscar later became employed on the dam building projects throughout the
northwest. He loved his work and met lots of people who became life-long
friends.
After retirement in 1978, they lived in Bridgeport for
a time, later moving to Union Gap; Libby, Mont. and returned to Goldendale
in 1992.
Oscar was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and
loved fishing, hunting, gardening, raising flowers and feeding the birds.
He had many friends. Oscar enjoyed greeting the children
as they passed by his house on their way to and from school.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen, of Goldendale; four
daughters, Jeanne Johnson and husband, Gordon, of Goldendale; Mary Jo Hopperstad
and Julie Boardsen Smith, both ofYakima and Gloria Boardsen Riches and husband,
Phil, of Vancouver; six grandchildren, Soott Bateman, Steve Bateman, Oscar
Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Michael Smith and Lyn Hopperstad-Herrera; one sister,
Emma Elliott; five great-grandchildren, Scott, Lorienne, Susan, Oscie, and
Jaden; two sisters-in-law, Helen Collins and Dort Wensel; and many nieces
and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial was said Feb. 3 at Holy Trinity
Catholic Church with Fr. William Byron, Celebrant. Rosary services were held
Feb. 2. Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery under the care of Erdman Funeral
Home.
