ORIE ERNEST SHIPPEY
Orie Ernest Shippey, a resident of Klickitat County since
1889, passed away on May 5 in The Dalles Hospital at the age of 79 years.
He was born in McComb, Illinois on September 15th, 1870
and came west with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.B. Shippey and settled in
Eastern Oregon. They moved to Klickitat County and settled in the Appleton
District.
He was united in marriage to Etta May Reed of Horseshoe
Bend in 1903. The children born to this union are: Orie Bair Shippey of Lyle,
Mrs. Florence May Swanson of Portland and Oral Shippey, deceased. He is also
survived by a sister, Clair Henserling of Seattle and a brother, Harry C.
Shippey of Seattle. Two grandchildren, Arlene and Marylene Shippey of Lyle,
Wash.
Mr. Shippey was engaged in the sawmill business for 30
years and then retired to farming in the Fisher Hill district.
Funeral services were held Monday, May
8th at Gardners Funeral chapel with vault interment committal service in
the Lyle Cemetery.

FUNERAL FOR APPLETON MAN HELD HERE MONDAY
Ora Shippey passed away May 4 in The Dalles hospital, after a few days illness. He was 79 years old. He was a pioneer of the Appleton country having come there while a young man. He started the first saw mill out there, later on he went into extensive farming, clearing much of the land. He made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Blair Shippey there on the home place for a number of years until his death. He is survived by the son Blair, one daughter, Mrs. Florence Swanson of Portland, one sister, Mrs. Clara Hinshaw of Seattle and one brother, Harry Shippey of Alaska and two granddaughters Arlene and Maryion Shippey. Funeral services were held Monday at the Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon with Rev. George in charge with burial at the Balch cemetery in Lyle. Harry Shippey of Alaska and his sister Mrs. Hinshaw and other relatives from Seattle attended the funeral.
