OBITUARY

     Mrs. Oliva Jane Adams Stump was born May 5th, 1861, in Clackamas county, Oregon, and died March 8, 1929, at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 11 days. She moved to Klickitat county, Washington, with her parents in 1873, where she was united in marriage to Oliver T. Stump of the Spring Creek section, December 13th, 1877.
     In 1887 she and her husband settled in the Pleasant Valley district, where they lived until May, 1919, after which she made her home in Goldendale until her death. Her husband Oliver T. Stump, preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1921.
     To this union were born seven children, five of whom are still living: Mrs. Ira Tuttle, Yakima, Wash.; Orville and Herman, Goldendale; Carl of Lyle, Wash., Mrs. Lela Thomson, of Goldendale; 18 grandchildren, and eight great great grand-children. She also leaves one sister and three brothers: Mrs. T.B. Brown, White Salmon, Wash., T.D. Adams, Newberg, Oregon, F.F. Adams, Portland, Oregon, and George Adams, address unknown.
     The Adams family were early pioneers of this county, knowing the hardships of frontier days, when but few stockmen and Indian traders live here.
     Mrs. Stump united with the Church of Christ at Pleasant Valley in 1907, and was a strong advocate for the preservation of the sacred simplicity of the worship of the church, remaining so to the close of her life.
     Funeral services were conducted from the Chapman Chapel, Monday, March 11th, at one o'clock, Rev. S.C. Eshelman of Centerville, officiating, with interment at Pleasant Valley.

It was my mother who taught my infant lips to pray,
To God's holy word and day and walk in wisdom's pleasant way,
O, no, the thought I cannot bear,
And if God please my life to spare,
I hope I shall reward thy care;
And when I see thee haying thy head,
Twill be my turn to watch thy bed,
And tears of sweet affection shed.
