OBITUARY

    Orsino P. Shurtz was born in New York state, May 29, 1843, moving to Pennsylvania with his parents when he was seven years old. He was married to Ellen D. Fortney, October 18, 1863. A year later they moved to Chippawa, Wisconsin, where he engaged in the lumber business and timber cruising. In the spring of 1874 he moved to Marion county, Oregon, his family joining him in November of the same year. In the fall of 1877 they came to Klickitat county, Washington, where he had one of the first sawmills in the county. He also engaged in farming in the Blockhouse district. His wife died December 7, 1897. Later he married Alice M. Robinson, who died April 3, 1897, near Port Orford, Curry county, Oregon. He was the father of six children, three sons and three daughters. Two sons and one daughter, and five grandchildren survive him. He died at the home of his son, Otto, February 24, 1920 at the age of 76 years, eight months and twenty-six days.

"Town and Country"

     O.P. Shutz, died at the home of his son, Otto, in Spring Creek, Tuesday night, from heart trouble. He is survived by two sons, Otto and Ney Shurtz, and one daughter, Mrs. R.G. Bullack.
