SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. R.W. WALKER, PIONEER RESIDENT
Funeral services for Mrs. R.W. Walker, 92-year-old pioneer
resident, who passed away January 27 at the Klickitat Valley Hospital, were
held from the Phillips Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 31, with the Rev. Walter
G. Smith of the Baptist church officiating. Interment was made in the Spring
Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Walker had been a resident of Goldendale since 1897.
The deceased was born January 17, 1858 and Forsyth county,
South Carolina, the daughter of William and Minerva McMillan.
On November 24, 1879, at Montrose, Mo., she was united
in marriage to Rev. R.W. Walker, who had just begun his ministry as a
Presbyterian clergyman and to this union eight children were born.
In 1886, Rev. and Mrs. Walker moved from Missouri to
Umatilla county, Oregon, and in 1897 they came to Goldendale.
Her husband passed away in 1929. Two of her children
also precede her in death.
She is survived by three daughters and three sons, Mrs.
Lora Barnes of Stevenson, Mrs. Zetta Gossard of Buena and Mrs. Gertrude Bronneau
of Portland, Ore.; Henry and Roy Walker of Goldendale and Ralph Walker of
White Salmon. One stepdaughter, Mrs. D.O. Gordon of Culver City, California,
17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter
survive.
