PAUL PATE

     Paul Charles Pate, a longtime White Salmon resident, died Aug. 25, 1997, in Hood River, Ore., at the age of 86.
     Mr. Pate was born Jan.17, 1911 in Little Rock, Ark., to Alice (Wood) and Alfonso Pate. He lived in Arkansas for many years. He started his career in baseball in Missouri with the St. Louis Cardinals.
     He came to Oregon to work in the shipyards as a rigger foreman in the 1940s. He played baseball with the White Salmon Antlers in the Gorge League during the 195Os. He worked as a mail contractor from 1962 until recently. He was very active in Little League.
     He is survived by four children Paul L and Jon N. Pate, both of White Salmon, Anthony B. Pate, Tualatin, and Joyce Pate Kramer, Seattle; sisters Lela Taylor, Denver, Colo., and Pauline, Little Rock, Ark.
     Memorial services were Sept. 2, 1997, at Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon at 10 a.m. Inurnment was held at the White Salmon Cemetery Niche Wall.
     Memorials may be given to the Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon.
     Gardner Funeral Home, White Salmon, was in charge of the arrangements.
