PHILIP DEAN
Longtime Glenwood resident Philip Leo Dean, died on Jan.
10, 2005. He was born in White Salmon to Tressie (Gerbing) and George H.
Dean on June 17, 1927.
Mr. Dean was raised in Glenwood, where he attended Lakeside
School and Glenwood School. On Feb. 9, 1945, at the age of 17, he enlisted
in the U.S. Navy. He received an honorable discharge from his military service
in July of 1946. After his separation from the Navy, Mr. Dean lived in The
Dalles, Ore., for a year before returning to Glenwood. On June 19, 1948,
Mr. Dean married Veneta Steinbach. He worked as a heavy equipment operator
for J. Neils, St. Regis and Champion. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to
hunt and fish.
Surviving Mr. Dean are his children Jim Dean, Glenwood,
John Dean, Trout Lake, Jerry Dean, Glenwood, Jennifer Frudd, Clarkston, and
Jay Dean, Wahkiacus; sister Marge Franks, Beaverton, Ore.; 13 grandchildren
and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veneta,
and sister Faye Rausch.
A funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005,
at 12 p.m. at Pioneer Memorial Community Church in Glenwood, with Pastor
Sandy Strait officiating. Vault interment followed at Mt. Adams Cemetery.

Philip Leo Dean, 77, of Glenwood, died Jan. 10,
2005.
He was born June 17,1927 in White Salmon to Tressie (Gerving)
and George H. Dean.
He was raised in Glenwood, where he attended Lakeside
School and Glenwood School. On Feb. 9, 1945, at the age of 17, Dean enlisted
in the U.S. Navy. He received an honorable discharge from his military service
in July of 1946. Following his discharge, Dean lived in The Dalles for one
year before returning to Glenwood.
He married Veneta Steinbach on June 19, 1948. Dean worked
as heavy equipment operator for J. Neils, St. Regis, and Champion.
He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and
fish.
His wife, Veneta, and a sister, Faye Rausch, preceded
him in death.
Survivors include four sons, Jim and Jerry, of Glenwood;
John, of Trout Lake, and Jay, of Wahkiacus; a sister, Marge Banks, of Beaverton;
13 grand-children and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Jan. 14 at the Pioneer Memorial
Community Church in Glenwood, with Pastor Sandy Strait officiating. Vault
interment was at the Mt. Adams Cemetery. Memorial contributions maybe given
