RUTH ASHLEY SERVICES TODAY

     Funeral services will be held today, Friday, Dec. 4 for Mrs. Ruth Ashley, a resident of Cook for more than 10 years, who died at her home Tuesday.
     Mrs. Ashley was born January 19, 1908 at Marine City, Michigan, the daughter of Burton and Elizabeth Belknap. She graduated from michigan State University in 1921 with a degree in Music and for most of her life gave private piano lessons. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.
     She was married Dec. 21, 1931 in Albany, New York to Lawrence M. Ashley and their first home was at Ann Arbor, Michigan where Dr. Ashley was a graduate student at the University of Michigan.
     They subsequently lived in Maryland and Southern California before moving to College Place, Wash., where Dr. Ashley was a Biology Professor at Walla Walla College from 1949 to 1960.
     After many years as a college professor, Dr. Ashley accepted a position with the Western Fish Nutrition Laboratory at Willard in 1960 and the Ashley's moved here.
     Besides here husband, she is survived by a son, Robert Ashley, Battle Ground; a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Betty) Myers of Huntsville, Alabama; and her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Burton H. Belknap of Delmar, New York.
     She was a member of the White Salmon 7th Day Adventist Church and was for many years Sabbath School pianist.
     Services will be held today at Gardner's Funeral Home in White Salmon with Pastor Elwood Starr of the Seventh-Day Adventist church officiating. Interment will follow at the White Salmon Cemetery.

SERVICES HELD ON FRIDAY DEC. 4 AT GARDNERS

     Mrs. Ruth Belknap Ashley was born in a January 19, 1908 at Marine City, Michigan. She passed away December 1, 1970 at Cook, Washington.
     She was educated in the Michigan Public Schools and received the Bachelor of Music Degree from what Michigan State University.
     She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and Sigma Alpha Lota, music honorary society.
     She was happily married to Lawrence M. Ashley during the past 39 years and was the mother of two children.
     Mrs. Ashley taught private piano lessons on a part time basis for 37 years and was, for two years, a piano instructor at Walla Walla College.
     Dr. and Mrs. Ashley came to the Cook-Willard area in June of 1960 where Dr. Ashley became head of the Histopathology Department at the Fish Nutrition Laboratory.
     Mrs. Ashley is survived by her husband, Lawrence M. Ashley of Cook, Washington; her father, Brurton H. Belknap Delmar, New York; her daughter, Betty Ashley Meyers of Huntsville, Alabama; her son, Robert Ashley of Battleground, Washington; and two grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held Friday, December 4th, at 130 p.m. at Gardner's Funeral Home in White Salmon, Washington. Interment was in the White Salmon Cemetery. Pastor Elwood W. Starr of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiated at the services.
