"Heard on the Streets"
Robert Venable, a well known young man in this vicinity, died at Mare Island, California recently, the date of his death not being known as yet. He was 19 years of age, and along in the fore part of April had been listed in the navy, being stationed near San Francisco. Word of his death was received by relatives in this city the fore part of the week, and arrangements have been made to have the bodied shipped to Goldendale and buried in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The body is expected in on tomorrow's train.

"Town and Country"
Andy Venable's son, a Klickitat raised boy, who left here a few weeks ago and joined the United States army, died on board of ship of typhoid fever vacination, while the troops were on their way to their training camp at Honolulu. He was the oldest son of Mr. Venable, and a nephew of Willard Wing, the Goldendale blacksmith.

ROBERT VENABLE
The funeral service of Robert Venable was conducted on
last Saturday, from the Chapman Chapel. Rev. Henry T. Green conducted the
service and delivered the eulogy, Mrs. Fred Bridgefarmer and Mrs. Ray Crooks
sang.
Robert Venable was a young man, in his nineteenth year.
He enlisted in the navy recently, and was stationed at Mare Island. His death
came suddenly on May 21st. He was a young man of pleasing qualities and high
ideals. His going is sincerely regretted.
His body was laid away in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. The
escort to the grave was the Goldendale band, and the Firing Squad of the
Home Guard. Following the Committal Service the Military Salute was given
by the Firing Squad. "Taps" were sounded by the Bugler Steve Price.
Mr. Venable was a nephew of Willard and Marion Wing.

"Klickitat Intelligence"
Robert Francis Venable, second class seaman in the United States navy, who died in the hospital at the Mare Island navy yard in California, May 21st, was buried at Goldendale Sunday, with military honors. The Goldendale band headed the funeral procession, and in the absence of any regular military organization, a squad from the home guard company paid the last honors by firing a regulation military salute over the grave. Young Venable was a Klickitat boy and a recent recruit to the navy. He was 18 years old and his death was caused by a bronchial pneumonia, contacted while in the line of duty. The body was sent to Goldendale from a Vallejo, California, by the naval authorities at the request of his mother, who is now in Michigan. Marion and Willard Wing, of Goldendale, are uncles of the dead seaman.
