RODGER DALE GROSS
Rodger Dale Gross passed away at his home in BZ Comer
on Palm Sunday, March 31, 1996.
He was born to Harold Wesley and Betty Jean (Wells) Gross
on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950 in Hood River. The family moved several times
during his childhood, but he returned to make a permanent home in BZ Comer
while in high school. He and his wife, Sally were married August 22, 1969.
He worked as a logger, operating heavy equipment and
log trucks and was self employed for 8 years. His most recent work involved
excavation to repair roads and railroad bedding damaged by the winter floods.
He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed family camping, fishing
and hunting. He loved to cook and was locally famous for his 4th of July
pig roasts and backyard barbeques. In recent years he enjoyed halibut fishing
in Alaska. He also liked woodworking, house remodeling and working in his
yard.
He loved kids and provided father care to others besides
his own, including niece and nephew, Terrie and Kenny Coates. He is remembered
by his wife, Sally, daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Todd Clifton;
granddaughters, Krystal and Kimberly Clifton of Eugene; daughters, Mary Gross
and Sara Gross and granddaughter, Myra Sprague of Seattle and step-father,
Mary Bonin of BZ Corner. Brothers and sisters include Bill Gross of BZ Corner,
Linda Fields of White Salmon, Cindy Usher of Canei, Idaho, Ellen Funk and
David Smith of Ketchedan, Ala., Richard Smith and John Miller of Vancouver
and Judy Hadley of Poulsbo. His family also includes 19 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold and mother, Betty Jean Bonin
Gross.
