RAY DURKEE DROWNED IN GOOSE LAKE
Jumped From Raft Into Deep Water - Could Not Swim
Ray Durkee, 30 years of age, of Liberty Bond, was drowned
in Goose Lake last Sunday at 11 o'clock in the morning. He and his brother
were on a raft and Ray, who could not swim, jumped off with the paddle believing
he could reach shore. He went down in the deep water and his brother almost
drowned in his effort to save Ray. Dr. Belshiem of Guler was called and worked
with the drowned man for nearly two hours but all efforts failed to bring
life back.
The funeral will be held at the Appleton church today
with the remains laid to rest in the Appleton Cemetery. Deceased is survived
by his widow and five children. A brother is coming from St. Louis to attend
the funeral. Gardner's Service of White Salmon had charge of the funeral.
