Richard, the eldest son of Emmett and Mrs. Radcliff, and who died on Friday last was buried Sunday. He was followed to the cemetery by the largest concourse of people ever seen at one time in Pleasant Valley. That funeral sermon was preached by Elder Poole of the Christian Church, who came from Wenatchee for the purpose. Richard will be missed by a large circle of friends and the parents have the sympathy of the entire community.

RICHARD RADCLIFF
Once again that the Death Angel has visited our midst
and claimed Richard Ellsworth Radcliff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Radcliff.
Richard was born on Mar. 7, 1900 and died Feb. 20, 1914,
aged 13 years, 11 months and 13 days.
The unexpected passing of Richard bring sadness to every
heart of his circle of friends, he had been sick only a short time being
operated upon for appendicitis Feb. 18, death followed in two days. Everything
was done that loving hands could do, but his life could not be stayed.
As the first born son he enjoyed the purest of parental
love, to which he responded with a heavenly salute of: "Honor thy Father
and Mother", which is the first commandment of promise.
As he became of school age he showed an ambition to prepare
himself for life's battle, with all that an education could give him. Taking
the strong position of promptness and perseverance he persistently and
successfully defied tardyness and discouragement, not once did "Aabsence
or Tardy" find an opportunity to stain his record, having passed the eight
grade in all but two subjects.
As his schoolmates last respect to him they can unanimously
give him his deserved credit which is: "You have done a good to all of us,
and you have done no evil to any of us." His last and most esteemed teacher
places on the brow the crown of the ideal obedient and loving pupil. Neighbors
and friends knew Richard to have been a model boy of whom nothing but childish
righteousness filled his life. Even at the ancient Redman-Tumwater sought
admission to look upon his lifeless form and contribute his appreciation
for the sunshine of the soul that had taken its flight.
The ambition of Richards life, was such, that he would
never have been satisfied, as his ideals were so high that he realized it
was necessary for him to use everyday. A day lost meant failure to him. Such
a life devoted to righteousness is the heritage he left his Father and Mother,
Grandmother and brother who remain this side of the eternity's door.
Elder S.O. Pool of Wenatchee, Wash. was called to speak
words of consolation to the bereaved family, friends. And on Feb. 22, the
little form of Richard was laid to rest, in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery,
to await the resurrection morn.
