ROY RICHARDS
Roy Evert Richards died in The Dalles, Ore., on June
30, 2003, at the age of 81.
Mr. Richards was born on July 29, 1921, in Yakima, to
John and Elsie (Barstow) Richards. When he was a very young boy, he moved
from Yakima to Bingen. On June 29, 1942, he joined the U.S. Army, where he
traveled the world and served with General Patton. On Oct. 17, 1945, he received
an honorable discharge from his military service.
Mr. Richards returned to Bingen and worked as a log truck
driver. He lived in Bingen until 2001, when he moved to Dallesport. For the
last several months, he had lived in The Dalles.
Mr. Richards loved hunting and traveling, especially
trips to Hawaii and the east coast and he really liked watching cowboy
shows.
Mr. Richards is survived by his two stepdaughters Lois
Herzberg, Dallesport, and Laura Koyle, Montana; three grandchildren; seven
nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by son Roy
Richards Jr.
A funeral service was held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July
6, 2003, at Gardner Chapel in White Salmon. A memorial graveside service
was held on Monday, July 7, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the White Salmon
Cemetery.
