RONALD F. NIVA
Ronald F. Niva, 78, of Goldendale, passed away Oct. 21,
1998 after a year-long battle with bladder cancer.
He was born Feb. 9, 1920 to August and Ruth Niva of
Centerville, where he was raised and educated. Ron married Gayle Garner in
1942. They had three sons.
After a divorce, Ron married the late Zelma Grillo. Together
they enjoyed life to the fullest, enjoying fishing, trips to Nevada, canning,
cooking, digging clams, and home life in Dallesport, where they retired.
Ron served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp from
1942-46. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2126, The
Dalles, Ore.; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2075, The Dalles, Ore.; American
Legion Louis Leidi Post 116; and Centerville Grange 91.
Ron was preceded in death by Gayle and Zelma, and a
grand-daughter, Alicia.
Survivors include three sons, Jim and Jeanne Niva of
Anchorage, Alaska, Marc and Phyllis Niva of Goldendale, Ken and Gail Niva
of Beatty, Nev.; one sister, Margaret and Jack Tobin of Goldendale; one brother,
Eugene and Mabel Niva of Milwaukie, Ore.; nine grandchildren; three great
grandchildren; step-family, Zel Rae and Vic Schuttie of Raymond, Donna and
Jim Miller, of Centerville, Dennis and Debbie Grillo of Yakima; six
step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 24 in Goldendale. Interment
was in Centerville Cemetery.
