Robert "Bob" Gene Knowles, 83, a resident of Dallesport,
died at his home on Monday, June 25, 2001.
He was born June 4, 1918, in Harve, Mont., the youngest
of three children to Bert Ray and Alzora Laura (Keillor) Knowles. He spent
his early childhood in Harve, before moving to Gervais at age 6.
He served in the Army during World War II, then returned
to Gervais.
He and Mary Wilma Eskew were married Aug. 18, 1947, in
Reno, Nev. and they settled in the Mid-Columbia area in 1954.
He worked as a carpenter and welder on The Dalles, McNary,
Chief Joseph, Priest Rapids, Lower Monumental and John Day Dams and second
phase of the Bonneville Dam.
He enjoyed his small farm at Murdock, hunting and fishing
and loved his animals including his cows, horses, goats, dogs and cats.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma, Dallesport; his son,
Ricky and his wife, Teri Knowles, The Dalles; his daughters and their spouses,
Sharon and Michael Helyer, Dallesport, and Sandra and Roy Hawkins, The Dalles;
seven grandchildren, five grand-daughters, six great-grandsons, four
great-granddaughters, and special friends, Dorothy and Smithy Smith, Ben
and Naomi Enesi, Bob and Zada Rolen and many other friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis, and
his sister, Ruth.
Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby &
Powell Funeral Home from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28 and 8:30 to 10:30
a.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be held at Spencer, Libby &
Powell Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, with Asa Jenson and Ben Enesi
officiating.
Interment will follow at Balch Cemetery in Lyle.
