ROBERT BENNINGTON
Robert Harold Bennington, died Saturday at his home in
Bingen, at the age of 77.
He was born July 18, 1911, in West Union, Ohio, to Mr.
and Mrs. William Bennington. He spent most of his young life as a farmer
in Ohio and always said he wanted to go West. This he did in 1940. He married
his wife, Margaret Wotton of Trout Lake, on Aug. 14, 1942, in Reno, Nev.
He learned to play the guitar at an early age and music was always a very
important part of his life. He had his own Western band at one time, but
later played only in church and for senior citizens.
During his early year in the West, he worked in the logging
industry and sawmills. He returned to Ohio in 1964, where he joined the heavy
equipment union and worked as an operator until his retirement in 1973. He
returned West in 1979 and bought a house in Bingen, where he lived the remainder
of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, Bingen; sons Robert
W., Portland, and Barry, Pebbles, Ohio; daughters Ann Edres, Hillsboro, Ore.,
Marelne Starr, White Salmon, Misty Lynn Bennington, Manchester, Ohio, and
Bonnie Jean Douglas, Hood River; a sister Irene King, Blue Creek, Ohio; a
brother Roy Dale Bennington, Blue Creek; six grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
Services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral
Home, with Rev. Dave Garrison officiating. Interment was in the White Salmon
Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Heart and Lung Association.
