ROBERT HUTTON

     Robert William Hutton, 20, of Glenwood, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a one-car accident near Glenwood.
     Mr. Hutton was born June 17, 1976, in The Dalles, Ore. and lived in Glenwood all his life.
     Mr. Hutton owned his own small herd of cattle from which he picked most of his 4-H steers. He had been very active in 4-H for 10 years and enjoyed raising steers, having shown 12 at the Klickitat County Fair.
     He also showed photography in 4-H for three years, receiving Top of Show and Top of Show in Open Youth Photography in 1988 and 1989, followed by red and blue ribbons for those photos at the state fair in Puyallup.
     Mr. Hutton has been a 4-H Team Leader for four years and was also in rodeo and vet science. Some of his many awards included the Gold Star Excellence Award from Pomona Grange #32 for seven years; a free campship to Camp Morrow, Ore.; the steer of merit award; the Joe Hassing Memorial Steer Award; the Pomona Cup $50 savings bond award; the Shawna Roberson Memorial Most Improved Award; a gold medal for leadership; a gold medal for beef and over 85 4-H ribbons and other awards. His 4-H offices included vice president, reporter, treasurer and service on over 29 committees.        Mr. Hutton's first three years of preschool were at Mt. Hood Community College where his mother was a student. The remainder of his school years were in Glenwood, where he played in Little League for two years, played in the band two years, helped with Hunters' Safety Classes three years, and was manager for PeeWee basketball team for one year. He also attended three Windstar Workshops for Peace and a Better Environment as well as one Camp Cispus Workshop on the environment.
     A graduate of Glenwood High School, he worked on the year book, played on the baseball team, was a member of the Cayuse Junior Rodeo for three years and served as vice president and president of the Glenwood High School Rodeo Association and had then been a director of the same group. Following graduation, he attended the John Deere AgTech Program at Walla Walla Community College.
     He was an avid bull rider, having attended the Greg Oules Bull Riding School, and had won several trophies, including seventh place in the 1993-94 season from which he went to the Silver State International Rodeo in Fallon, Nev. He also loved team roping with his friends and going hunting and fishing. Traveling was also one of his joys.
     He had worked on the Bishop Kitchen Crew at the Hells Canyon Fire at Imnaha, Ore., where he met his special friend Shelley Gandy. Currently he was employed as a logger.
     Survivors include his mother Joann Hutton, Glenwood; father and step mother, Bob and Gloria Hutton, Goldendale; half brother Timm Hutton, Tacoma; grandparents, Freda Hutton, Goldendale, and Kenneth and Frieda Sheridan, Glenwood; great-grandmother Margaret Sheridan, Portland, special friend Shelley Gandy, Centerville; and three step brothers, Howard, Vancouver, Jason, Tacoma, and Andy, Norfolk, Va.
     A celebration of life service was held Oct. 20, 1996, at 1 p.m. at the Glenwood School. Pastor Greg Petrie officiated.        Memorials may be made to the R.William Hutton Memorial Fund in care of Klickitat Valley Bank in Goldendale or White Salmon.
     Erdman Funeral Home of Goldendale was in charge of the arrangements.

William's drum was used by two native Americans, one from the Yakima Nation and one of the Hopi Nation background. Pastor Greg Petrie officiated. Memorials may be made to the R.William Hutton Memorial Fund c/o Klickitat Valley Bank in Goldendale or White Salmon. Erdman Funeral Home of Goldendale was in charge of arrangements.
