ROY BRUCE

     Roy J. Bruce, a longtime Bingen area resident, died July 8, 1997, at the Hood River Care Center, at the age of 85.
     Mr. Bruce was born Jan. 12, 1912, in Tallequah, Okla., to Dan and Oma Bruce. He married Ethel Baker on Oct. 5, 1939, in Wagoner, Okla. They moved to the Bingen area in 1958. He retired from Harvey Aluminum in 1967 and then worked for a period as a self-employed carpenter. His lifelong love of the outdoors then became his vocation -- hunting, fishing and telling stories about the big one that didn't get away. His second love was gardening and he took great pride in his garden.
     Mr. Bruce is survived by his daughter, Lois Hardy, White Salmon; son, Ronnie Lee Bruce, White Salmon; sisters Gertie Bradshaw, Carson, and Stella Newton, Inola, Okla.; brothers Troy Bruce, Vian, Okla., and Robert Bruce, Canyon, Texas; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son Floyd Alvon Baker.
     Memorial services for Mr. Bruce will be held July 18, 1997, at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, with Jim Bradshaw officiating. A reception at the White Salmon Park Center will follow the services. Interment will be private.
     Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge or the Kingdom Hall Building Fund.

Gardening was his second love and he always got his garden planted first, taking great pride in doing so.
     He is survived by his wife, Ethel Bruce, Bingen; daughter Lois Hardy, White Salmon; son Ronnie Lee Bruce, Snwoden; sisters Gertie Bradshaw, Carson, and Stella Nuton, Inola, Okla.; brother Troy Bruce, Vian, Oklahoma, and Robert Bruce, Canyon, Texas; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son Floyd Alvon Baker.
