Robert John Cimmiyotti
Robert "Bob" John Cimmiyotti, 88, a resident of The Dalles,
died at the local hospital on Monday, Jan. 28, 2002.
He was born Dec. 28, 1913, in Clem, the third of seven
children to Leonard and Ora (Crum) Cimmiyotti. At an early age, he moved
with his family, by river boat, from Arlington to Lyle.
He graduated from Columbia Union High School in White
Salmon. Choosing barbering for a profession, he attended Molar Barber College
in Portland, then barbered in both Oregon and Washington.
He enlisted in the US Naval Reserve on Dec. 8, 1941 and
entered into active duty on Dec. 17, 1941, at NRS, Seattle. He boarded the
USS Tangier on Jan. 22, 1942, at Pearl Harbor, to serve 3½ years through
the Asiatic Pacific and the liberation of the Philippines. He separated from
active duty in October of 1945.
He then came to The Dalles, where he started his barbering
profession at 205 E. Second St. in December of 1945. He married the girl
next door, Cora Bethel Bolton, who was a secretary at the Farm Loan Association,
on June 7, 1947, in Camas.
He was recalled to active duty in the Navy in September
of 1950, to serve in the Korean War and was released from duty in January
of 1952. He then returned to the Royal Barber Shop where he worked until
retirement in 1979.
He enjoyed camping, hunting, traveling and was proud
of his yard flowers and vegetable garden.
He was a member of the Oregon Trails Travel Group, Wasco
County Pioneers and Mid-Columbia Senior Center. He was a past Commander of
the American Legion Post No. 19 and past Exalted Ruler of The Dalles Elks
Lodge No. 303.
Survivors include his wife, Cora, The Dalles; his son,
Steven Cimmiyotti and his daughter, Melinda Childers, both of Portland; five
grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his sisters, Leila Crapper,
Hood River; Vesta Leis, Dallesport, and Maryal Schultz, Goldendale.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at The
Dalles First Christian Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2. Private cremation
was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell
Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Elks Vision Fund, c/o The Dalles
Elks Lodge No. 303.
