ROBERT LYLE MAIER
Robert Lyle Maier, 71, a resident of The Dalles for 34
years, died on Thursday at a Portland hospital.
He was born Oct. 4, 1918 in Portland to Joseph and Edna
(Brooks) Maier. He graduated from Benson High School in 1936 and joined the
U.S. Navy, where he served for nine years.
After leaving the service he began working for Pacific
Northwest Bell in February of 1946 in Portland. He married Dorothy J. Pierson
in Hermiston on April 7, 1946.
He worked in the telephone company's line construction
department and retired out of Bend in 1972. He was member of Faith Lutheran
Church, and the Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, The Dalles; two
sons, Joseph Maier, Hermiston; and Richard Maier, Hillsboro; a daughter Sharon
Eberhardt, Arcadia, Calif.; five grandchildren, Melissa, Jason and Travis
Maier, Nathan and Lauren Eberhardt; and a sister, Jean Campbell, Milwaukie.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church
on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Sylvester officiating. Burial
will follow at Appleton Cemetery, Appleton, Wash.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or the
Oregon Heart Association. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
