R.J. CLEMMONS IS BURIED
The funeral of Robert J. Clemmons who died here Wednesday,
was held Friday under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. Mr. Clemmons was
born August 9, 1849, in Fulton County, Indiana. He enlisted in company K.,
Second Nebraska Cavalry, and served during the Civil War. At the close of
the war he served in the West for a year, fighting Indians.
In 1870 he was married to Martha J. Smith. They moved
to Washington in 1887 and to White Salmon in 1889 and homesteaded what is
now known as the Hesler Orchards.
Four children besides the widow survive him, Mrs. Rose
E. Etherton, Mrs. Susan E. Locke, Mrs. Rachel Moorehead and Robert Webster
Clemmons.
