LARGENT
Raleigh Massey Largent, eldest son of Eliza and William
Largent, was born Aug. 16, 1896 at Dayton and passed away at Brentwood, Cal.,
Jan. 17, 1983.
Raleigh grew up in the Palouse country where his family
farmed. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War 1 and fought in France,
returning to farm for several years with his family. He then became a farm
implement salesman, traveling over many of the Western States. In 1932 he
began farming in Chadron, Neb. and in 1939 moved to Goldendale where he made
his home since 1979.
Very active in community affairs, Raleigh organized the
Klickitat County Wool Pool and helped, with friends, to organize the Goldendale
Rural Fire Dept. He also help organize of the VFW Post in Goldendale. He
was an active member of the American Legion and the Centerville Grange.
When Raleigh retired from farming, he continued an active
life repairing and making furniture. Shortly before his death began a new
project, the manufacturing of garden carts.
He is survived by his wife Frances of Brentwood, Ca.;
one daughter, Alice Maxon of Walla Walla; two sons, John of Walla Walla and
Max of Goldendale; two sisters, Anna Dyer of Spokane and Ada Evans of Bellingham;
three brothers, Fred of Potlatch, Idaho, William of Pendleton and Wayne of
Moscow, Idaho; ten grand-children and several great grandchildren.
Interment was in the Centerville Cemetery Jan. 22. American
Legion members Leo Garner, Gerald Gibson, Don Green, Bert McCarty, Gene Jackson
and Don Beierie served as casket bearers.
