RUTH M. LITTON, PASSES AT 86; RITES SATURDAY

     Ruth Myers Litton, eldest granddaughter of Edward and Isabella Underwood for whom Underwood is named, died in a Portland hospital Sunday, July 22 at the age of 86.
     Mrs. Litton was born in Underwood January 3, 1893, the daughter of Charles and Lovisa Underwood Myers. She grew up on the family homestead and was post- master of the old Underwood Post Office for many years, occasionally leaving Skamania County but always returning to the area.
     She made her home in Carson for many years and moved to Milwaukie, Oregon in 1973.
     Mrs. Litton is survived by a daughter, Elsie Hardin of Portland, and two sisters, Alberta Myers Woody of Kelso and Ellen Tyrell Card of Hood River. There are seven nephews and one niece.
     She had been in failing health for several years and was hospitalized two months ago.
     Graveside funeral services will be held tomorrow, Saturday, July 28 at the historic Chris-Zada Cemetery in Underwood, the cemetery established in 1904 by her grandparents the Edward Underwoods.
     Mrs. Litton's sister Ellen Card will officiate at the simple rites.
     Gardner's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

     Ruth Myers Litton, a resident of the Underwood-Carson area most of her life, died Sunday in Portland at the age of 86.
     She was born Jan. 3, 1893, in Underwood to Charles and Louisa Underwood Myers. She lived in the Underwood-Carson area until 1973 when she moved to Milwaukie, Ore.
     Survivors include her daughter, Elsie Hardin, Portland; two sisters, Alberta Myers Woody, Kelso, and Ellen Tyrell Card, Hood River; seven nephews and one niece.
     Ellen Card will conduct the graveside funeral services scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be at the Chris-Zada Cemetery in Underwood.
     Contributions in Mrs. Litton's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
