RUSSELL R. KREPS
Russell R. Kreps, a lifelong rancher and resident in
the west end of the county, died Jan. 30 at his home in Gilmer Valley. He
was 85.
He was born Oct. 29, 1892 in Fulda, the upper end of
Glenwood Valley, the third in a family of four. Oliver and Margaret Kreps
where his parents. He went to school in the valley and later attended Oregon
State College. After college, he returned to Glenwood Valley and farmed with
his father.
In 1925, he married Marie Wyers, White Salmon and moved
to that city. They had five children.
He went into business with his father-in-law, Teunis
Wyers. The business consisted of three star mail routes, the fleet of buses
for White Salmon schools, a Standard Oil Distributorship to cattle ranch.
In 1934, the family moved to Gilmer Valley and expanded
the ranch. The family worked the ranch until his retirement in 1968. Upon
retiring, he remained at the ranch.
He is survived by his wife: daughters, Margaret Kayser,
Centerville, Jane Hecomovich, White Salmon and Mary Louise Shattuck, Toppenish;
sons Oliver T. "Chip," and Russell W. "Bodge," both of White Salmon; 15
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was a member of Camas Prairie Pioneers Assn.; Klickitat
County, state and national cattleman's assns.; Trout Lake Grange and past
director of Security State Bank. He was also a Rotary member of several years
and a life member of Mt. Adams Lodge No. 1868, Fraternal Order of Elks.
Seven grandsons, R. Howard Kreps, Keith, Kris and Kelly
Kreps; Neal, Ned and Nate Kayser served as pallbearers.
Interment was the in the White Salmon Cemetery.
