ROBERT S. CARYL
Robert Shelton Caryl, formerly of Trout Lake, died at
his home in Stevenson on May 4, 1996, at the age of 84.
Mr. Caryl was born Sept. 21, 1911, in Central City, Iowa,
to Anna (Conklin) and Isaac B. Caryl. He grew up in Iowa, moving to the Portland
area at the age of 16. He worked with the U.S. Forest Service in Trout Lake
and during World War II helped his father on the farm in Trout Lake. Then,
he and his brother Dick ran the farm for five years before moving to California.
He stayed in California for six years before returning to Trout Lake. He
worked for Hollenbecks and SDS Lumber Co. before retiring.
Mr. Caryl married Francis Powell Wilson in 1963. She
preceded him in death in 1993. He moved to Stevenson to live with his brother
about 1½ years ago.
Mr. Caryl is survived by his step-son David Wilson, Bellevue;
step-daughter Constance Buckey, Friday Harbor; brothers Paul Caryl, Stevenson,
and Richard Caryl, Bow; sister Marian Schmid, Hillsboro, Ore.; four grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Caryl will be held today, May 9, 1996,
at 1 p.m. at Gardner Funeral home in White Salmon, with Pastor Dick Steward
officiating. Interment will be at Trout Lake Cemetery.
Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
