RALPH A. TROUT
Ralph A. Trout, a Husum native, died Feb. 22, in Hood
River of natural causes, at the age of 80.
Mr. Trout was born May 30, 1907, in a cook shack at a
logging camp near Northwestern Lake to Charles and Anna (Grossman) Trout,
where his father logged and his mother was a cook. He moved with his family
to Rose Hill above Hood River, where he attended grade school. In the spring
of 1921, his family moved to Glenwood, where they started farming. He quit
school in the ninth grade to help his father on the farm.
He married Lourina M. Cress on July 4, 1935, in Vancouver.
Lourina proceeded his death on Nov. 19, 1978. He worked as a cat driver in
the Mt. Adams area for SDS Lumber Company until he retire in 1972. Since
his retirement, he has kept busy enjoying hunting, fishing, playing pinochle,
and attending family gatherings and senior center activities.
Mr. Trout is survived by three sons, Stephen, Eklton,
Ore., Michael, Kennewick, and Stanley, Underwood; one brother, E.J. "Al"
Trout, Hood River; one sister, Josephine Barnes, Portland; and six grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Gardner
Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Arthur Dickie officiating. Interment was in the
Glenwood Cemetery.
