RUTH BENTLEY
Ruth Bentley, a resident of White Salmon since 1979,
died Friday in the Hood River Care Center, at the age of 88.
Mrs. Bentley was born April 8, 1897 in Pine City, Minn.,
to Mr. and Mrs. Walter P. Gottry. She grew up in Minnesota and taught in
rural schools for three years before she married Ray D. Bentley. The couple
was married in Pine City on April 3, 1919.
They farmed in central Minnesota until 1943 when they
moved to Nampa, Idaho. They moved here in 1979 to be closer to their family.
Mrs. Bentley was a life member of Mt. View Grange
(transferring from the Nampa Valley Grange), a member of the Royal Neighbors
and First Methodist Church in Nampa, where she sang in the choir. She was
proficient at any craft including knitting, crocheting and tatting.
She is survived by her children Ray D. (Pete) Bentley
Jr. and Betty Irish, both of White Salmon, and Patricia Rypkema, Mora, Minn.;
six grandchildren and 11great-grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Bentley were held Wednesday at 11 a.m.
at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with Rev. Jean Marie Wood officiating.
Interment was in the White Salmon cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church
in the White Salmon.
