Lyle
Died, on May 24, at 9:50 p.m. of stomach trouble, Mrs.
Ira B. Hewett, aged 45 years, 8 months and 8 days. Mrs. I.B. Hewett was born
in The Dalles, on September, 16, 1863, and moved to Lyle with her father
and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Lyle, in January, 1867, and has made her home
in Lyle ever since. She was raised on the Balfour place until she was married
and since that time she has lived near the Pine Hill farm. Your correspondent
was well acquainted with her, having known her since our arrival in Klickitat
county in 1876. She was always jovial and very sociable, and always had plenty
of friends. She was the only daughter of J.O. Lyle, who once owned the whole
Balfour place. He is the oldest pioneer of the Lyle country and will be a
78 years old June 4th. Mrs. Hewett leaves a husband, five children, father
and brother and a host of friends and other relatives to mourn her loss.
She was a loving mother and wife, and was loved by all who knew her. She
leaves one son, about two months old. The husband and family have the deepest
sympathy of all of their neighbors. She was laid to rest in the Lyle Cemetery
on the 26th.
The funeral services were held by Rev. Woods of Glenwood.
That funeral was well attended, there being 30 vehicles in the procession,
besides several on horseback and on foot.
No one can take a mother's place when she is gone. Mr.
I.B. Hewett and family wish to thank all of their friends for the help and
all the kindness that they gave during the illness and death of their beloved
wife and mother. They also wish to thank Mr. and Mrs. Hall for the very
appropriate songs they sang.
