SARAH "BETTY" BAKER
Sarah Elizaheth "Betty" Baker of White Salmon died Oct.
19, 1994; she was 87.
Mrs. Baker was born May 20, 1907 in Fort Fairfield, Maine
to Violet (Libby) and Charles Pearce. Her family moved to the White Salmon
Valley when she was four.
She lived on the family farm north of town and boarded
in White Salmon for the first two years of high school. The last two, she
boarded with a family in Oakland, Ca.
On April. 14, 1929 she married Gordon C. Baker at her
parents home. The couple moved to Underwood in 1942 where they farmed.
Mrs. Baker was the postal clerk for over 20 years. She
attended the Bethel Congregational Church and loved to garden.
Mr. Baker died in l986. She continued to live in Underwood
until moving to Down Manor in 1990. For the last year she has been cared
for at Mt. View Foster Care Home in White Salmon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, and
her brother John Pearce.
She is survived by her sons David of White Salmon, Gerald
of Laguna Niguel, Ca., Richard of Gladstone, Lauriston of Marysville; and
her brother Amos Pearce of White Salmon. She had seven grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
Remembrances in her name may be given to the Baker Memorial
Scholarship Fund c/o Key Bank in White Salmon.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baker were held Saturday, Oct.22,
at the Gardner Funeral Home; the Rev. Sigmund Podlozny, Jr., officiated the
service.
The Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of all the
arrangements.
