ANOTHER PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH
Susan E. Locke came west from Kansas in 1886 with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Clemens, when she was eight years old.
There were very few families living in White Salmon when
they settled here.
She was married to Jacob M. Locke in 1895 and went to
live on their homestead at Snowden until her husband's death in 1941. She
then bought her little home in White Salmon where she lived until April 27,
1959 when she was taken to Skyline Nursing home where she died Sunday morning,
Nov. 27.
She is survived by her daughter, Marie Locke Splawn of
White Salmon, a son and Claude Locke of Richland, four grandchildren, eight
great grandchildren and one great great grandson; and two sisters, Mrs. Rachel
Morehead of Klickitat and Mrs. Rose Carlton of LaCenter.

LOCKE RITES WEDNESDAY
Susan E. Locke passed away Nov. 26th at Skyline Hospital.
She was born January 31st, 1878 in Smith County, Kansas and came to White
Salmon, Washington at the age of eight. Susan resided in White Salmon until
her marriage to Jacob M. Locke on March 19th, 1895. They moved to their homestead
at Snowden, Washington, and resided there until January 12, 1941, after losing
her husband. She then moved back to White Salmon where she spent her remaining
life.
She is survived by one daughter, Marie Splawn of White
Salmon, and one son, Claude M. Locke of Richland, Washington. Four grandchildren,
eight great grandchildren and one a great-great grandson. Two sisters, Rachel
Morehead of Klickitat and Rose Carlton of Vancouver, Washington.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 30th,
2 p.m. at Gardner's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mr. Alfred Palmer officiating.
Interment was in the White Salmon Oddfellow Cemetery.

DEATH SUMMONS SUSAN E. LOCKE
Funeral services for Mrs. Susan E. Locke, 82, resident
of Klickitat County since 1886, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 30
at Gardner's Chapel. Rev. Alfred Palmer officiated. Burial was in the Odd
Fellows Cemetery.
Casket bearers were James Burlingame, William Moore,
Frank Finch, Robert Chamberlain, Lee Lloyd and William Lauterbach.
Mrs. Locke was born on Jan. 31, 1878 in Smith County,
Kansas and died at Skyline hospital, White Salmon, Sunday, Nov. 27.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Marie Locke Splawn
of White Salmon: son, Claude Locke of Richland; four grandchildren, eight
great grandchildren and one a great great grandchild.
