SHIRLEY GRETCHEN JASPERSON
Shirley Gretchen Jasperson, 85, of Lyle, died at a local
care facility in The Dalles on Jan. 16, 2004.
She was born Oct. 16, 1918 in Albert Lea, Minn., to Stacey
and Myrtle Matilda (Melback) Krominga. Jasperson was raised in Albert Lea
and graduated from Albert Lea High School.
She married Carl Christian Jasperson on Aug. 27, 1938,
in The little Brown Church in The Vale in Iowa. They traveled with his
construction work and during World War II, lived in Bremerton, where he worked
in the shipyards. After the war, they traveled throughout the west, coming
to Dallesport, in 1953. In 1967, they built their home over-looking the Columbia
River in Lyle.
Jasperson was a homemaker and worked at the Dallesport
Elementary School in the cafeteria in the early 1960s, and for The Dalles
Chronicle, as a proofreader for 10 years in the 1960s and 1970s.
Jasperson was a member of Lyle United Methodist Church
and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was known for her easy going personality
and ready smile. According to her family and friends, Shirley was the best
cookie-maker in the state. She began tole-painting in her 70S, her husband
built rocking horses, and Shirley showed her skill at painting them.
Her husband, Carl, infant twin sons and three brothers,
Herman, Dale and Richard, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three children, Jay and his wife, Karon
Jasperson; Jacquelyn and her husband, Keith Johnson, all of Lyle, and Jeanne
and her husband, Michael Agostinelli, of Spokane; five grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
Viewing visitation was held at Spencer, Libby and Powell
Funeral Home on Jan. 20. Funeral services were held at Spencer, Libby and
Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m., with Rev. William Scholl
officiating. Interment will follow at Balch Cemetery in Lyle. Spencer, Libby
and Powell Funeral Home are in care of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, 751 Myrtle
Street, The Dalles, Ore., 97058.

She was born Oct. 16, 1918 in Albert Lea, Minn., the
second of four children to Stacey and Myrtle Matilda (Melback) Krominga.
She was raised in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High
School.

a family very proud of the feminine and ladylike demeanor she presented at
all times.
She is survived by three children, Jay and his wife,
Karon Jasperson; Jacquelyn and her husband, Keith Johnson, all of Lyle, and
Jeanne and her husband, Michael Agostinelli, Spokane; five grandchildren,
Kevin, Michele, Kelly, Jennifer and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren,
Kristine, Brady and Carlee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl,
in 1997, infant twin sons and 3 brothers, Herman, Dale and Richard.
Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and
Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 20, from to 2 to 7 p.m.
Services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral
Home on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. with Rev. William Scholl officiating.
Interment will follow at Balch Cemetery in Lyle. Spencer, Libby and Powell
Funeral Home are in care of arrangements.
