SARAH J. QUACKENBUSH
Sarah Jane Quackenbush of White Salmon died Friday in Lyle. She was
86.
Mrs. Quackenbush was born July 13, 1905 in Wieser, Idaho to William A.
and Gertrude Lesh near Weiser, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her
husband Claude Quackenbush in 1947.
Mrs. Quackenbush worked for a year or so as a secretary in the office
of her father-in-law, an attorney and her husband, a certified public
accountant. She became a homemaker while at home with their children. For
years she worked as a cook's assistant for the forest service at Gifford
Pinchot National Forest in Trout Lake. Later, she helped in the kitchen at
the White Salmon schools until her retirement.
An active Seventh-day Adventist, Mrs. Quackenbush enjoyed the work of
the Dorcas Society. Throughout her years, she enjoyed gardening and
traveling.
She is survived by seven daughters, Shirley Smith of Walla Walla, Rose
Anne Jaksha of White Salmon, Barbara Rimer of Vancouver, Claudia Brown of
Carson, Merlyn Simmons of Yakima, Darla Lehmann of Underwood, and Sharon
Hires of Tenino; four siblings, Mildred Hollenbeck of Salem, Ore., Maybelle
Lavender of White Salmon, Olive Hollenbeck of Trout Lake, and Lawrence Lesh
of Freemont, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Gardner Funeral Home, followed
by burial at White Salmon Cemetery.
