Services for Samuel Leon Dean, 79, who died in Portland
Thursday, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Vancouver Funeral Chapel. The
Rev. Paul McCutcheon will officiate and graveside rites will be at 2 p.m.
at the Lyle Cemetery in Lyle. A retired carpenter, Dean
lived in Vancouver since 1920 and resided at 2702 East 33rd St. He was born
April 21, 1893, in Nevada, Mo., and was a member of the Senior Citizens Council
of Vancouver.
Survivors include his wife, Grace, at home; three sons,
Marvin Dean in California, Ormand Dean of Portland, and Donald Dean of The
Dalles, Ore.; one step-son, Vern King of Gladstone, Ore.; four daughters,
Mrs. Bernice Johnson of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Dorothy Linden of Goldendale,
Mrs. Inez Lee of The Dalles, Ore., and Mrs.Betty Cronkite of Long Beach,
Calif; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lila Marteeny of Vancouver and Mrs. Ethelda
Church of Astoria, Ore; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Wright Dean of Wenatchee, and George
Dean of The Dalles, Ore.; and three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Livingston of Portland,
Mrs. Neva Bowles of Vancouver and Mrs. Alice Lamm of Sedro Wooley, Wash.

Samuel Leon Dean, 79, died in Portland January 11, 1973.
A retired carpenter, he had lived in Vancouver since 1920.
Previous to that he had lived most of his life in Klickitat County,
including at Lyle where he at one time operated a grocery store, at Dallesport,
and at Glenwood, where his mother was postmistress.
He was born April 21, 1893 in Nevada, Mo. and was a member
of the Senior Citizens Council of Vancouver.
Survivors include his widow Grace;
four daughters, Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Linden of Goldendale, Inez Lee of The
Dalles, Betty Cronkite of Long Beach, Cal. and Bernice Johnson of Hollywood;
two step-daughters, Lila Marteeny of Vancouver and Ethelda Church of Astoria;
three sons, Marvin of California, Ormand of Portland and Donald of the Dalles;
one step-son, Vern King of Gladstone; two brothers, Wright of Wenatchee and
George of The Dalles; and three sisters, Ethel Livingston of Portland, Neva
Bowles of Vancouver and Alice Lamm of Sedro Wooley.
Services were held in Vancouver January 13 with graveside
services at the Lyle Cemetery.
