MRS. FRANK GROSHONG, PIONEER WOMAN, PASSES
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30
o'clock at the Gardner funeral home in this city for the late Mrs. Frank
Groshong, who passed away on November 23 after a short illness at the age
of 78 years, 5 months and one day. Rev. J.W. Reynolds, of the Methodist church,
and the Eastern Star lodge were in charge of the services. Interment was
in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
Sarah Margaret Groshong was born in Skyler City, Illinois,
June 22, 1864, was married in Newton County, Missouri, in 1881 and came to
White Salmon in 1889. She was baptized in the Columbia river 45 years ago
as a member of the Methodist church. For 16 years she has been a member of
the White Salmon Eastern Star lodge. Mrs. Groshong was one of the best known
pioneer women of this city and a host of friends mourn her loss.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Electa
Emstrum of this city, and Mrs. Pearl Lord, of Los Angeles, and one son, Fred
Groshong, of Woodland, Washington. A grandson, Martin Hickman, is serving
with the U.S. Army.
