SYLVIA MAY STUBBS
Sylvia May Stubbs, 84, of White Salmon passed away Friday,
August 2, 1996.
She was born May 7, 1912 in Paradise, Ore., to May (Beeman)
and James Winters. Sylvia married Claude Campbell in 1929. He was a sheepherder
and logger and she cooked for the camp. They moved to Salem, Ore., in 1930
and to Goldendale in 1933. They moved to the White Salmon area about 1943
where they owned a restaurant on Main Street for many years. Claude died
in 1969.
Sylvia worked as a cook at the bowling alley and married
Melvin Stubbs Nov. 10, 1973. She then retired in 1974 and Melvin died in
1978.
She was a member of White Salmon Christian Assembly,
AARP and active in T.O.P.S.
Sylvia loved to cook and paint, she was a very loving
mother, grandmother and she loved family get togethers.
Survivors include her son, Jackie L. Campbell of Charleston,
N.C., daughters, Joan Walker and Judy A. Fink of White Salmon, Melva J. VanVliet
of Bingen; brothers, Buck Winters of Hermiston, Ore., Virgil Winters of LaGrande,
Ore., Percy Winters of Elgin, Ore.; sisters, Pearl Sasser of Enterprise,
Ore., Wilma Tippet of Lostine, Ore., Bertha Prince of Union, Ore., Bessie
Fleecer of Minam, Ore., Goldie Collinsworth of Milton-Freewater, Ore., Rena
Clark of Pendleton, Ore., and Alta Anderson of Estacada, Ore., Survivors
also include nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Aug. 6, 1996 at the White
Salmon Christian Assembly with Pastor Dennis Conner officiating. Contributions
my be given to White Salmon Christian Assembly or the Senior Citizens
Transportation fund c/o Gardner Funeral Home, White Salmon
