STANLEY LOCKE
Stanley Locke, formerly of White Salmon, of late Sunnyside,
died Thursday. He was 90.
Mr. Locke was born Sept. 29, 1902 to Mary Della (Evans)
and William M. Locke on a homestead about four miles north of White Salmon
near what is now known as Locke Hill. He attended White Salmon schools but
a football injury prevented him from finishing his senior year. After he
recovered two years later he bought two logging trucks and worked in logging.
A raging fire destroyed the trucks which were parked at his parents' home.
The fire destroyed the home and surrounding properties.
In the early 193Os, Mr. Locke managed his parents' two
farms in Southern Oregon near Grants Pass. In 1935 he met Aletha Williams
and the next year married her in Medford, Ore. He continued to work on his
parents' farm until he bought a ranch near Grants Pass in 1942. Five years
later he sold the ranch and moved his family to Trout Lake to farm.
In 1986 Stanley and Aletha celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary. Mr. Locke enjoyed his many friends and family. He enjoyed fishing,
picking berries, hunting, traveling and playing pinochle.
He is survived by his wife, Aletha of Sunnyside; son,
Melvin Stanley Locke of Port Orchard; daughters, Geraldine Combelic of Seattle
and Cheryl Fernandez of Sunnyside; brother, Melva Locke of Husum; 12
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister,
Amy.
Graveside services were held Monday at White Salmon
Cemetery.
Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
