THOMAS DEMPSTER ADAMS
Thomas Demster Adams was born November 22, 1867 at Marks
Prairie, about four miles south of Canby, Oregon. His pioneer parents moved
to Klickitat County, when he was six years old and settled at Spring Creek,
where he grew to manhood. At eighteen he taught his first of 30 terms of
school in Klickitat County, besides operating a farm here for 40 years.
When 13 years old, he found Christ as his Savior, and
joined the Baptist Church at 18, in which he has served faithfully. He was
deacon of the Spring Creek Baptist Church for many years and served in this
capacity at Antioch Baptist Church in Portland until his death.
September 13, 1891, he married Alice Elizabeth Duffield
and to this union were born seven children; four girls, three of whom are
living, and three sons, one serving in the United States Navy. Daughters
are, Mrs. H.O. Wilson, Bickelton; Mrs. Grace Crevling and Mrs. L.N. Van Hoy,
Goldendale. The sons are: Lee G. Adams, Portland, Ore.; Hugh E. Adams, Salem,
Ore.; Howard J. Adams, U.S. Navy.
The Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Adams was celebrated
September, 1941 and 53½ years of happy wedlock were enjoyed by this
couple up to the time of his departure.
Fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also
survive. One brother, Freeman Adams, who lives in Portland is the remaining
member of his immediate family.
He passed away at the Emanuel hospital in Portland March 9,
and funeral services were held at the Phillips Funeral Home in Goldendale
March 12, with Rev. R. Keith Milam officiating. Interment was at Spring Creek
cemetery.
