THURSTON HOWARD MASTERS
Thurston Howard Masters, who passed away at the Klickitat
Valley Hospital, February 26, 1959, at the age of 70 years and 5 months,
was born in Goldendale September 24, 1888.
He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Masters,
early pioneers of Klickitat county. Mr. Masters received his early education
in the Goldendale schools, later being employed as a miller in both of the
local flour mills.
On January 5, 1914, he was united in marriage to Mary
Ann (Mayme) Garner and in 1917 they settled on their ranch south of Centerville.
They farmed there until ill health forced his retirement in recent years,
when they moved to Goldendale.
Howard was a member of the Odd Fellows Alimus Lodge No.
15 and the Centerville Grange No. 81. He was an ardent fisherman and spent
many happy hours on the Big Klickitat.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Mayme, and his
son James Howard Masters of Centerville; two grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia
M. Cameron of Nelson, B.C.. His parents, two sisters, Stella Hess and Ethel
Russel, and two older brothers, David and Arthur, preceded him in death.
A devoted husband and father, Howard will be missed by
his loved ones and his many friends and neighbors.
Pallbearers were his six nephews: Henry and Reg Miller:
Henry, William, and Leo Garner, and Robert Anderson. Interment was at the
Centerville Grange Cemetery.
The funeral service was conducted at the Phillips Funeral
Home Sunday, with the Rev. Arthur Campbell officiating. Mrs. Adria Sleeper
was at the organ and Duane Lewis sang.
