T.N. TALBERT, 92 YEARS OLD, PASSES AWAY
Thomas Newton Talbert was born January 28, 1850 in Pike
County, Illinois. At that time of his death last Friday he was ninety-two
years, one month and sixteen days of age.
He lived in Illinois until the fall of 1878 when he came
to Willamette Valley, Oregon. In the spring of 1879 he moved to Goldendale,
Klickitat County, Washington. He became Marshal of the city of Goldendale
and later was Deputy Sheriff of Klickitat County. All his life he was interested
in community, church and political activities.
On January 1, 1883, he married Nellie May Billington.
Five children were born to this union: Geda E., deceased; Walter I., residing
at White Salmon; Mary, deceased; Myrtle L., deceased; and Harry W., residing
at Home Valley, Washington.
In partnership with Mr. Tunis Hinshaw, he farmed for
a few years near the Buttes Southeast of Goldendale. In the spring of 1887
he took up they homestead near Cleveland in Eastern Klickitat County. He
operated this farm until the spring of 1910 when he moved to White Salmon
were he spent the greater number of his remaining years. Mrs. Nellie Talbert
passed away July 1st, 1918.
Besides the two sons, Walter and Harry, he is survived
by a brother, Charles L. Talbert of White Salmon, ten grandchildren, and
five great grandchildren.
Interment was in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery and White Salmon.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock
at the Gardner Funeral home for Thomas Newton Talbert who died Friday, March
13 at Home Valley. He was born in January 28, 1850, in Pike county, Illinois,
and at that time of his death was ninety-two years, one month and sixteen
days of age.
He lived in Illinois until the fall of 1878 when he came
to Oregon. In the spring of 1879 he came to Goldendale, Washington, and spent
the most of his remaining years in this county.
In 1888 he moved to Cleveland, where he took up a homestead
and a bought other properties which he farmed till 1910, raising stock and
grain. He sold the farm at that time and came to White Salmon. He served
as deputy sheriff of Klickitat county in 1882.
He was married on January 1, 1883 to a Nellie May Billington.
To this union of five children were born; Geda E., deceased; Walter I., residing
at a White Salmon; Mary, deceased; Myrtle I., deceased; and Harry W., residing
at Home Valley, Wash.. Mrs. Nellie Talbert passed away in July 1, 1918. Besides
the two living sons, he is survived by a brother, Charles L. Talbert of White
Salmon, ten and grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The grandchildren
are; Mrs. Blanche Sager, Mrs. Dorothy Young, Elaine Earl and Janice Talbert
of White Salmon, Mrs. Lois Barber of the Klickitat, Mrs. Alice Selner of
Tonasket, Lieut. Howard L. King of the U.S. Air Corps, Charles King of Brewster,
Wash., and Doris N. Talbert of Home Valley.
Mr. Talbert was originally a member of the Presbyterian
Church, and after moving to White Salmon in 1910, became a member of the
Methodist Church.

PIONEER TOWN MARSHAL PASSES
Funeral Services were held in White Salmon last week
for Thomas M. Talbert, 92, one-tine Goldendale marshal and Klickitat county
deputy sheriff.
Mr. Talbert had been a resident of Klickitat county since
1882. He came here from Illinois where he was born on Jan. 28, 1850. In 1886
he moved from Goldendale to Cleveland where he operated a ranch.
In 1910 he sold his property in Bickleton and moved to
White Salmon where he resided until his death. He is survived by two children,
Walter I. Talbert, of White Salmon, and Harry W. Talbert, of Home Valley,
Wash. A brother, Charles L. Talbert, of White Salmon, also survives.
