APPLETON GIRL DIED FORM FALL INJURIES

APPLETON -- (Special to The Sentinel) -- The community is saddened by the death Saturday of little Verna Sorensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sorensen. She fell out of the car when the door swung open and was injured internally. She died in The Dalles hospital where she was taken for treatment. The first report was that she had been run over, but diagnosis proved that she probably struck the running board when she fell. No one knows just what happened. Her mother was in the house at the time.

OBITUARY

Little Vernia Sorensen, four and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sorensen, of Appleton, was fatally injured Saturday when she fell from the family car as it was being backed out of the garage.
It is thought she fell forward and grabbed the handle of the car door, causing it to fly open. She was rushed to The Dalles hospital and passed away a short time later while on the operating table. Her mother was in the time of that accident and her father had to be taken to The Dalles hospital the night before for treatment for serious nose bleed.
Verna Darlene Sorensen was born in the Dalles, Oregon, August 23, 1934 and passed away April 1, 1939, being 4 years, 1 months and 7 days old. She leaves to mourn her loss her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sorensen and two little brothers, Stephen and Elton, of Appleton, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Nagel, of Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. Van C. Sorensen, of Lyle, and great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.J. Myers, of White Salmon, several aunts and many other relatives.
A large crowd attended the services, which were held in Lyle Tuesday afternoon and she was laid to rest in the Lyle cemetery. Rev. Reynolds, of White Salmon, conducted the services.

Verna, darling, how we miss you,
Miss your smile and happy face,
Though we know you're with angels,
No one here can take your place.

Now the house is oh, so empty,
And the hours so long you know,
Yet we feel that Jesus called you,
And He willed it to be so.

So good bye, but not forever,
We will meet you over there,
Where there's no more pain of sorrow,
And we'll never know a care.

So we lay you 'neath the flowers,
And we know you are at rest,
Sleeping, oh, so sweet and peaceful,
Knowing God alone knows best.
