VIRGIL CHAMBERLAIN
Virgil E. Chamberlain, a longtime mid-Columbia resident,
died July 25, at the age of 65.
Mr. Chamberlain was born Sept. 12, 1919, in Unity, Ore.,
to Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. (Bessie Conklin) Chamberlain. He was raised in
Lyle, graduated from White Salmon High School and attended Washington State
university. He worked for the Department of Agriculture and travelled extensively
to South and Central America. After his retirement for the department, he
worked for SDS from 1964 to 1971. He also managed the Recreation Tavern until
1979.
He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member
of the BPOE, the American Legion and the Eagles.
Mr. Chamberlain is survived by his wife, Alice, White
Salmon; a son, Thomas and Patricia Chamberlain, Davie Fla.; a stepdaughter,
Jerielle Eccles, Bingen; a sister, Vera McCoy, White Salmon; a brother, Vernon
Chamberlain, Colville, Wash.,; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by one son, Gary, in 1962.
Services for Mr. Chamberlain were held Monday at 2 p.m.
at Gardner Funeral home in White Salmon, with Rev. Jean Marie Wood and the
Mt. Adams BPOE 1868 officiating. Interment was at Balch Cemetery in Lyle.
