ESHELMAN

     Violet Emma (Woods) Eshelman, a long time Goldendale resident, passed away on December 17, 1993 in Goldendale.
     Violet was born to a pioneer family, Walter and Emma Woods on November 12, 1916 in Goldendale.
     Violet attended the Goldendale schools until the death of her father, when she was 12, after which her mother who was a teacher, returned to teaching in Orchard Heights and at Goldendale and Centerville where Violet graduated from high school in 1935.
     On May 8, 1937 she married her high school sweetheart, Lemoin Eshelman, son of Cloud and Emma Eshelman. The couple farmed in the Centerville area until last asthma caused Lemoin to turn to being a New York Life agent for 22 years until his death in 1982.
     During her lifetime, she and Lemoin were active workers in church, where she was a teacher for vacation Bible school, also the Grange, Neighbors of Woodcraft and Rebekah Lodge. She held offices in her lodges.
     She loved people, especially youth and seeing them have opportunities to develop. Her home and table were open to everyone. She and Lemoin were avid sports fans and if possible, never missed a game of football, basketball or baseball. Violet still followed this closely after Lemoin's death.
     Her favorite hobbies were the youth, community work, rock hunting, fishing and sports. She loved Goldendale and whenever she traveled, she showed pictures of Goldendale.
     She is survived by her son, Meryn of Goldendale; daughter, Barbara Elwess of Tenino; grandchildren, Keryy, Lisa, Mark and Jeff; great-grandchildren, the Jacob Thomas, Jasper Lemoin and Jeffrey Levi; also many nieces and nephews survive; sister-in-law, Edna Woods of Gresham; one brother-in-law, Wayne Eshelman and Katherine of Goldendale; sister-in-law, Virginia Eshelman of Portland; sister-in-law, Helen Woods of Woodland, Wash.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Lemoin; her parents; and three brothers.
     Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Erdman Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Akins of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Centerville Cemetery.
     Pallbearers are Billy Woods, Mark Woods, Charles Eshelman, Roger Randall, Dale Cameron and Jim Miller. Honorary pallbearers include Ray Hill, Quinton Jaekel, Alvin Randall, Ray Mattson, Bill Garner and Arthur Winterstein.
